What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The company I would chose to distribute my magazine would be IPC media. The reason for this is they are a huge company with a serious amount of titles of magazines they distribute, however under the category young men and music there is only 4 brands. This would be perfect as my magazine would be able to fit into the category and also not take away any of the sales from the another magazines like NME as my target audience is completely different. The reason I think such a big company like IPC would take on my magazine is because of the size of the target audience is just so big. Mainstreamers are probably one of the biggest social groups out there and they all have to be like each other and have to have the new biggest thing because everyone else has it. I would have a major publisher as  I would need to make a big hype and make sure the mainstreamers know that this is magazine is the next big thing as then everyone will want the magazine. The advantages with going with a big company like IPC is they have experience in every field. They would know exactly how to market the magazine and exactly where to publish it. Also its the brand identity people know who IPC are where as some people might not know who Clash are.  There more people that know about your product the more sales you are going to get. This will also go with my target audience as they buy things because of the brand. Going with a self- publishing company isn't the best choice for me and my magazine. As my target audience cares about image and brand a small company like Clash wouldn't be a wise choice as barely anyone has heard of them compared to IPC. I think I could get it distributed by one of the big UK distributors like Marketforce and WHSmiths because its new, its cool and it has a huge target audience which means a lot of sales, with the right advertising I think it could be possible however 3/5 magazines fail in the first 3 years. Marketforce is partnered with IPC media, this is a huge bonus as they have their own big distributor which means paying less money for other distributing companies. Sales wouldn't be the only way the magazine brought money into the company, once known the magazine would advertise clothes, cars, phones anything that is new and that would suite our target audience a little like Nuts which advertise things like cars and other manly objects their audience of men would want to buy, also subscription would bring in money, I would offer the chance to subscribe to the magazine so you don't have to go out and buy the magazine it is delivered to your door like NME offer. Advertising is a huge part of any magazine as its one of the main ways in which a magazine gets its money, so I would allow brands that suite my style and genre of magazine like NIKE to advertise in my magazine as it would no only bring money onto the magazine but it would also advertise a mainstream product. There would be an online version of my magazine as my target audiences age is 14-19 (teenagers) and a lot of them spend most of their time on the computer so in my opinion this would be a good idea. We would also try to sponsor certain award ceremonies like the EMA's and MTV awards as these award shows are huge and many people watch the shows so again this would be a a big advertising boost, also they are mainstream channels which play mainstream/chart music which would be perfect. Lastly I would try to get a Itunes tie in for the magazine as Itunes is a huge part of all music and this where my target audience would get most the their music that they listen to, so this would also be another great bonus to have in the magazine.

  1. This answer seems similr to another one I have read. Please assure me that it is all your own material...

Asda is not a magazine distributor. IPC has its own distribution partner, MarketForce. Look at their website and include details of them.

To convince IPC of your proposition you have to consider further the potential revenue from advertising (selling your TA). You have made a start but can you develop your points about products, brands which you would try to target for selling your ad space.
